Land of Black Magic – Mayong, Assam

It is generally believed that the name Mayong comes from the Sanskrit word illusion i.e., Maya. It is a village 40km from Guwahati city. There are numerous stories associated with this area for instance, men disappearing in thin air, people being converted into beasts and animals. People used to practice black magic here and passed it down over generations. Some relics of black magic are now preserved in the central museum in Mayong.

India’s highest water fall- Nohkalikai Falls, Meghalaya

The Nohkalikai falls which is located near Cherrapunji is at a height of 1115 feet and is also known as the most tragic waterfall. This waterfall was named after the tragic story of a woman named ka Likai. This woman remarried after the death of her husband. But unfortunately her new husband started becoming jealous of her love for her daughter. So he decided to kill her daughter. Ka Likai was searching for her daughter everywhere but she couldn’t find her. What this man did was she killed her daughter, cut her into pieces and cooked a meal out of her dead pieces. He served it as a meal to his wife. When ka Likai saw her daughter’s finger lying in the meal, she good exhausted and threw herself from the cliff. Since then the waterfall is known as, “NohKalikai” which means “fall of Ka Likai “.

Taj Mahal Replica, Bibi ka Maqbara, Aurangabad

Built in 17th CE, the mini Taj was also known as “the poor man’s Taj”. This modest monument was built by Prince Azam Shah, son of Aurangzeb, in the memory of his mother, The Emperor’s first wife. It is quite a beautiful imitation of the Majestic inspiration Taj Mahal, build by Shah Jahan.

Temple of Rats-Karni Mata Temple, Rajasthan

This temple provides a home to over 20,000 rats. These little rats are popularly known as ‘kabbas’ and are worshipped by many, as it is believed that they belong to the family of Mata Karni. Other than the brown ones, the white mice are respected even more as they are considered to be Mata Karni and her sons.
